WWE star Jerry Lawler arrested on suspicion of domestic assault
No tolerance for domestic violence..
World Wrestling Entertainment said it has suspended Lawler. According to his official website, Lawler says he has never had alcohol in his life.
Ironically, the incident occurred after Lawler, 66, returned to the couple’s Memphis home after attending a WWE event titled A Night In The Slammer. He said that he might have put the gun on the counter, but he didn’t tell her to kill herself.
Lawler told police the argument started when Lauryn lied about where she had been. She also said she kicked Lawler in the groin, threw a candle at him and scratched his face. She told police she had been living with Lawler for five years. McBride says Lawler hit her on the head and pushed her into a stove. Lawler accused his fiancée of being drunk and starting the fight. She got home about 10 o’clock and she was just intoxicated. Lawler added that sometimes when McBride “over drinks” they get into a “shouting match”. “She was threatening to kill herself”.
Lawler joined WWE in 1992 and has previously run for mayor of Memphis several times.
Lawler has been a force in the wrestling business for more than 40 years.
On the phone, Lawler was more reserved about what happened. The wrestler later admitted that the long-standing rivalry was staged and the pair were actually good friends.
Lawler now handles color commentary on Smackdown and analyst duties on many of WWE’s pay-per-view pre-shows. However, the charges were later dropped. Per WWE’s policy, only superstars who are actually convicted are let go. According to the site, the charges were dropped because both Rose and his wife argued that the charges were inaccurate, and Rose was innocent of any violent acts.
He was immediately suspended by the WWE. Widespread speculation suggests this is the end of the star’s career.
