WWE Survivor Series: Sheamus cashes in to win heavyweight title
– This week in the ongoing series “Off The Top Rope” on ESPN hosted by former WWE personality Jonathan Coachman, newly crowned WWE World Heavyweight champion Sheamus was the guest. Lastly, the other big match is Charlotte defending her WWE Divas title against Paige, which WWE played the controversy play card on Raw with Paige mentioning Reid Flair’s death.
It took two Brogue Kicks from the Celtic warrior to end Reigns’ short stint as WWE champion, something that was apparently foreseen, as fans weren’t exactly delighted yet again at how things turned out.
This was as close to a dream match as we could get in November 2015, especially with Seth Rollins on the shelf until the middle of next year. Reigns caught Trips with a spear, which opened the opportunity for Sheamus to cash-in as speculated and highlighted over by the Bleacher Report. Pushing that to one side, this will be a very good match. After King Barrett and Big E were eliminated, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston walked backstage with their New Day teammate.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament: Semi-Finals: Roman Reigns def. Alberto Del Rio (with Zeb Colter) by pin following the Spear to advance to the Finals. You can still have Triple H come out for the handshake, that still makes sense. He defeated the final athlete in the form of Dean Ambrose but Triple H allowed Sheamus to cash in the Money in the Bank.
– As we reported earlier, it was Dean Ambrose in the main event of SmackDown this week, victorious in his match against Dolph Ziggler & Tyler Breeze.
With Sheamus just a few years from his 40th birthday and his best fighting years in the rear-view, it’s unlikely the WWE will script him to have a long title run. Roman vs. Rusev was announced for the Raw main event. Anyway, Brothers of Destruction win and this does nothing for Bray Wyatt. And he didn’t seem too broken up about having the title taken from him so quickly, sporting a smile on his face less than 24 hours when he was crying after losing to Sheamus. Their warm and tender embrace indicated to the crowd that they are still friends, and that neither would be turning heel.
Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll now see Reigns win the Royal Rumble again and win the championship at WrestleMania. Maybe they’ll give Reigns more of an attitude so the fans can get even more behind him.
