WWII-era Japanese bomb fuse removed from St. Petersburg home
They say a resident was examining some World War II memorabilia and came across what appeared to be an explosive device.
While checking out the antique items, the man noticed something that caught his attention as being a little odd, the St. Petersburg Police Department reported. A concerned citizen, who took the device from work, brought it to his home at 2219 45th Ave.
“He found (a device) which appeared to be potentially explosive in nature”, an email from the agency to media stated. After speaking with a relative with some expertise in military ordnance he called the police. A bomb squad from MacDill Airforce Base responded and removed the device from the home, police said.
The explosive device has been removed from the house by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit from MacDill and will be detonated off site, according to St. Petersburg police.
Criminal charges are not anticipated.
