X Factor winner Louisa Johnson sells just 39000 copies of single
The single, which reached number 8 in this week’s chart, beat Louisa Johnson’s cover of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” by one place.
Remember all of those people proclaiming that Louisa Johnson was immediately going to be the biggest thing since sliced bread after “The X Factor” this season?
In light of the poor sales of Louisa’s single, bookmakers around the country are now tipping the NHS Choir’s track, A Bridge Over You, to go to No1 at Christmas.
The X Factor did, however, give a boost to One Direction’s single History, which reached its highest position of number 11 after their performance of the song on Sunday’s final.
Ben followed a number of winners who had achieved the spot, including Sam Bailey (2013), Matt Cardle (2010), Alexandra Burke (2008), Leon Jackson (2007), Leona Lewis (2006) and Shayne Ward (2005).
Despite winning the X Factor with 53.9% of the vote, Louisa’s single has only managed to sell 39,000 copies which is said to be a disappointing debut for the 17 year old singer. As weekly chart positions are determined by sales from Friday through to midnight on Thursday, and Forever Young did not go on sale until Sunday night, she has had less than a week to score top sales as the charts.
Adele’s 25 is poised to sell its 2 millionth copy, making it the fastest-selling album to reach that landmark in United Kingdom music history.
His previous chart-topper Sorry stays put at number two and makes him the first musician to hold both the number one and number two spots for four weeks consecutively.
The issue is likely that – as reported throughout the series – audiences numbers have dropped dramatically on previous years and therefore the same public support isn’t what it once was.
