Xavier’s Edmond Sumner removed from court on stretcher after collision
James Farr was the only Musketeer able to get anything going. Coach Chris Mack said Sumner was squeezing his hands and moving his legs.
The freshman guard was a highly touted member of the 2015 recruiting class. According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, he was the No. 23 high school point guard and No. 107 player overall.
Villanova returned to their three-point shooting ways, and it paid off for them, making 13 of 25 shots from beyond the arc. Josh Hart had 15, Kris Jenkins had 13, Daniel Ochefu had 12 (and 10 rebounds), and Phil Booth had 10.
The injury happened with 17:39 left in the first half.
Sumner was fouled in midair, but when he fell down to the court, Jenkins appeared to fall on top of his head, leaving Sumner momentarily unconscious.
Edmond Sumner has been a total surprise and a big factor for undefeated Xavier. He was on his back and didn’t move for several minutes until he finally raised his knees.
