Xbox Announces New Subscription Service

Phil Spencer talked about a new subscription service for Xbox players that will allow then to play more than 100 titles each month. Bloober Team’s first-person psychological horror video game will only be available until March 31. With Xbox Game Pass, new games will continue rotating in every month as some games rotate out. How will it work with multiple profiles on one machine, or the same profile on multiple machines? . The only caveat is that it appears games will only be in the library for a limited time and Xbox LIVE Gold will still be required for multiplayer. Interactive Enterainment, Capcom, Focus Home Interactive, and Microsoft Studios, among others will be part of it. Similarly, with the death of video stores, renting games has meant subscribing to a mail order service or borrowing stuff from a friend.

How long games will sit in the library will likely depend on the agreement between Microsoft and the individual publishers. The full version is set to launch later this spring.

For this week, six classic titles for the Xbox has been added to growing list of Xbox One backwards compatibility.

However, unlike Sony’s offering, which relies on streaming, Microsoft will actually let gamers download the titles to their devices and play them locally. Additionally, Microsoft has said that, while Xbox 360 games are included, Xbox 360 owners can’t take advantage of the service on their old console. It offers a certain amount of trust that always looks good. Some people will shrug it off, and rightly so – but many players will probably get a lot of use out of the service.

The Xbox Game Pass is not a streaming service, like PlayStation Now, but a game download subscription along the lines of EA Access.
