Xbox One’s New Update Possibly Most Significant in Console History, Microsoft Says

A completely new look is rolling out to all Xbox Ones, alongside the launch of backward compatibility that will allow people to play games from the older Xbox 360 console.

In a related report by GameSpot, the backwards compatibility feature comes with the new Xbox One Experience dashboard update, which will start rolling out worldwide on Thursday, November 12. Make sure to leave your console in Instant-on Power Mode to install the update automatically. Microsoft plans to implement the same store as across all Windows 10 devices in the future and, because of new-found compatibility, any apps that also work on a bigger screen will be offered on Xbox One as well as other platforms, that could potentially increase the app list in the hundreds.

The New Xbox One Experience is a complete transformation of Xbox One, integrating the speed and versatility of Windows 10. All Xbox One consoles will receive a prompt for a mandatory update on November 23 if they have yet to be updated. “‘If you wanted to invite a friend to play a game with you, where would you go?’ Very specific, directed things to just test out whether the system made as much sense to real users as it did to those of us working on the team”, says Irving.
