Xena: Warrior Princess nabs Lost scribe
The original series, a spin-off from Hercules: The Legendary Journey, continued the stories of Lucy Lawless’ Xena, a former villain seeking redemption for past atrocities by defending the helpless.
We’re at the point where it’s more surprising when an old TV show doesn’t come back in one way or another, but here’s another reboot to add to the growing list.
After months of rumors, NBC has confirmed that the Xena: Warrior Princess reboot is most definitely happening, Entertainment Weekly reports. The potential series is being eyed for 2016.
While both Tapert and Raimi have gone on record saying that they would love to have Lawless back in some way for the “Xena” reboot, they are fully aware that the new Xena most likely will be played by someone else. The writer will be working closely with “Xena” co-creators Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi, who are returning to the show after nearly 15 years since the last episode aired. I think it’d be amusing to have a reboot like Ash Vs. Evil Dead – like middle-aged Xena in a muumuu with a bad attitude and a smoking habit… I’ve got it all figured out. Grillo-Marxuach will, of course, have a major role. The prolific writer’s résumé includes Helix, Charlie’s Angels, The Middleman, Medium, Boomtown, The Chronicle and Charmed. “I’m not sure how she could be part of it if she wasn’t playing Xena, and I don’t know if that’s a direction we’ll ever go”, he said, noting that he’d be open to having the actress – who is married to Tapert – involved creatively behind the scenes”. He’s repped by ICM Partners and Jackoway Tyerman. Bruce is probably happier bringing his own cult character back…
