Xiaomi Redmi Y2 India launch
The smartphone will be launching at 3PM in an event in New Delhi, the event will be livestreamed on the company website, YouTube channel, and also on social media channels like Twitter and Facebook. The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 launched in India today, which is a rebranded Redmi S2 for the Indian market. It includes support for gesture-based navigations for full screen smartphones that come with new aspect ratios. Xiaomi Redmi S2 price in Nepal is now set at Rs. 26,999. To put the improvements of MIUI 10 to the test and provide some real-world quantitative comparison, Xiaomi compared the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo in a speed test. The processor is the Snapdragon 625 which is backed up by an Adreno 506 GPU, which should give you enough power for a decent usage.
There is also a dedicated MicroSD card slot for further expansion of storage.
The USP of the phone soft-LED enabled. At the front, it has 16 megapixels front camera with HDR and front flash. The front camera uses pixel binning technology to deliver effective pixel size of 2 micron – this reduces noise and retains details.
MIUI 10 doesn’t only focus on performance but also design. Al Portrait mode can shoot better selfies with bokeh effect by focusing more on the subject. The fingerprint sensor, as visible in the images, will be placed on the back of the device in a central position. The smartphone is also about the cameras and it does have some improvement over the Redmi Y1. The phone will run on Android OS Oreo with the shell MIUI.
Speculations also suggest that Redmi 6 might carry a dual-rear camera and 5MP sensor at front.
Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack and a micro-USB port.
The lower spec’d variant of the Redmi Y2, the one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, is priced at 9,999 rupees ($148) while the 4GB + 64GB variant is priced at ₹12,999 ($193). The 3GB + 32GB version will retail for INR 9,999, while the 4GB + 64GB version is available for INR 12,999. The phone will be exclusively available on Amazon from June 12. Airtel users will get Rs 1,800 cashback and up to 240GB free data on using their SIM card with Redmi Y2. The Mi 8 went on sale on June 5 and that version quickly sold out.
