Xiaomi ups premium play in India handset market with Mi Mix 2

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is now available in India. It is the successor to last year’s Mi MIX and was first unveiled last month in China. Xiaomi will also launch Mi noise-cancelling headphones with Type-C USB at Rs 2,999 and can be used with the Mi Mix 2. The Mi Mix 2 smartphone has a series 7000 aluminium frame holding it together. The phone feels solid, nonetheless. The company held the phone’s India launch on Tuesday at an event in New Delhi. It does support multitouch and is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the top. The 6-inch screen offers FHD+ resolution with 2160×1080 pixels. It is among the few devices in the world that comes with an actual Bezel-Less Screen. No wonder, the company was able to price it lower than its competitors. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back below the camera panel. The volume rockers and power button are present at the right side and are easily reachable with single hand. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is coming up with more enhanced features.

This is the second flagship launched by Xiaomi with Mi 5 being the first which was launched previous year. Mi Mix 2 offers more real estate in a compact form factor. It is priced at Rs. 35999. This is something that’s missing from the phone.

With the front chin of the phone getting smaller by 12%, the Mi MiX 2 is expected to bring in better user experience courtesy the larger usable area. The camera records 4K videos at 30fps and 720p videos at 120fps.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 comes with Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 on top.

But the Mi Mix 2 isn’t one to stay in its predecessor’s shadow for too long – it features upgraded specs, improved materials, and-of course-reduced bezels.

Xiaomi also has launched a special edition of the phone that comes with a ceramic unibody design and it is supported by 6 GB RAM with internal storage of 128 GB. Both the Galaxy S8 and LG G6 are paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage, expandable via a microSD card. You will often find yourself wiping off those unwanted smudges. We will have to test it out over the next couple of weeks to see if they roll out software updates to increase the UI fluidity.

The new model also features Quick Charge 3.0 and can easily buy you a couple of hours worth of battery life just after charging for a few minutes. I know, I know, what you will be thinking now.
