Yahoo CEO gives birth to twins
The Yahoo CEO tweeted Thursday that she gave birth early that morning.
Mayer made the announcement on Twitter Thursday and said the “whole family is doing great”.
A Yahoo spokeswoman declined to reveal the twins’ names or weights.
Mayer, 40, was pregnant when she first joined Yahoo as chief exec in 2012, and gave birth to boy in September that year. The company and Mayer herself have been under increasingly intense scrutiny, as impatient investors examine her efforts to turn around the troubled company.
In the same way that she did when her son was born, Mayer reportedly plans to only have a short break away from work.
This is definitely a hectic time for Yahoo.
What a week for Marissa Mayer.
When the venerable Internet pioneer’s board of directors decided December 9 to reject a plan championed by CEO Marissa Mayer to spin off its $30 billion stake in Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. into a separate corporate entity and let Yahoo continue business as usual, it indicated that it has given up on Yahoo returning to viability as a major Web services and advertising media player.
Many investors have argued that Yahoo’s core business is valued near zero or negative on a relative market cap basis, said Pyykkonen, based on Yahoo’s current market cap of $32.3 billion and taking out the valuations on its stake in Alibaba and Yahoo Japan. However, Yahoo’s board believes that there is a marked difference between what the value of its Internet business might be. Mayer had a nursery installed close to her desk so she could work and help to take care of her child without going back and forth from her office. She has promised to provide details of the reorganization late next month when Yahoo releases its fourth-quarter earnings.
Yahoo Chairman Maynard Webb said that there isn’t a proactive movement to sell the company, but that the “board has a fiduciary obligation to engage with any person who comes forward with a good offer”.
