Yankees Deal Pitcher Ivan Nova to Pirates
Bastardo spent 2015 with the Pirates before signing with the Mets this season. Nova earned the loss in that appearance, giving him a 7-6 record with a 4.90 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.
Pittsburgh acquired Ivan Nova in exchange for a player to be named later in advance of the non-waiver trade deadline, according to FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman. Nova is supposed to provide depth for the back of the Pirates rotation.
Nova, 29, is a free agent after this season and was long rumored to be moved, but the Pirates were never much in the discussion, that was more Nathan Eovaldi. He’s pitched to a career 4.41 ERA and 4.40 FIP.
These deals come on the heels of the Mark Melancon trade to the Washington Nationals.
With that said, a Pirates team desperately trying to make up ground in the NL playoff race made the move in order to bolster a questionable starting staff.
