Yankees honor Alex Rodriguez for 3000th hit with ring
“It’s been consistent from day one; rest has been synonymous with me doing well shortly after”, Rodriguez said.
The Yankees celebrates A-Rod’s 3,000th hit Sunday.
Lou Piniella, Rodriguez’s first manager, gave him a video message.
Heading into this Major League Baseball season, a lot of the talk surrounded how exactly the New York Yankees would handle Alex Rodriguez reaching some of his milestones.
How about a pregame ceremony to celebrate Rodriguez’s 3,000th hit?
After Sunday’s ceremony, Rodriguez singled in his first at-bat and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly, sliding head-first to avoid a tag, and punctuating the run by screaming while holding both fists above his head. His mother, brother and sister also joined him. “Continue to do well and help the Yankees win a pennant”. Following a brief introduction over the stadium’s public address system, Rodriguez received a commemorative crystal from Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lon Trost and jewelry for himself and his daughters from owner Hal Steinbrenner.
“Just to come back and be able to contribute, that’s the most important thing to me”, Ackley said. His daughters were given pendants that match the top of Rodriguez’s ring.
And that made for a fitting end to an off-key beginning: A-Rod, recognized before the game for joining the 3,000-hit club (which he did on June 19), usually does his best work between the lines.
Ackley got the start at first base and went 2-for-2 with three RBI, including a two-run home run in the fourth.
Right-hander Adam Warren is tentatively scheduled to start Tuesday’s game in Tampa as long as he isn’t forced to pitch in relief Monday.
However, Anthopoulos expects Tulowitzki to have some marginal discomfort in the shoulder if his shortstop does return in that near future.
