Yankees pitcher Mitchell hit in head by line drive vs Twins
He joined ESPN in 2007 after nine years at the New York Post.
With two outs in the top of the second inning Monday, Yankees’ starter Bryan Mitchell was hit in the face with a line drive off the bat of Minnesota Twins’ shortstop Eduardo Nunez.
Mitchell managed to get up to walk from the field, but he was holding a towel covering his bloody face.
The Yankees said he was taken to a hospital, but didn’t give a report on his condition. It knocked Mitchell off his feet. Entering the night, the right-hander was 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings this season.
Mitchell was immediately taken out of the game.
Nuñez’s line drive ricocheted off Mitchell into centerfield for a run-scoring single.
Rookie Caleb Cotham came in to relieve Mitchell.
Mitchell was making a spot start for the Yankees, who moved their regular starting pitchers back one day.
