Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) Announces Retirement, Shares Emotional Freestyle About SA Arrest
Recorded in Cape Town, South Africa, Bey’s message sees him say that his travel document – a World Passport issued by the World Service – isn’t fictious and “is not meant to deceive”.
Recording of a voice message by Bey was posted on Kanye West’s website overnight.
He calls Kanye a “real friend” repeatedly, as well as saying ‘I committed no crime in any place why these police up in my face.
“He has entered South Africa 10 times, and has always entered the country on a visitor’s visa [90 days exemption] using a US Passport, not a World Passport”, director general Mkuseli Apleni told reporters in Pretoria.
“Further investigation into the matter revealed that Mr Smith’s wife, mother and four children had overstayed and were sojourning in the country illegally”.
‘Peace this Yasiin no more parties in S.A.,’ he says, referring to Kanye’s brand new single No More Parties in L.A. which dropped on Monday. He also acknowledges his friendship with Kanye with the line, “Thank you Kanye West for being a real friend”. He is now still being held in Cape Town, and tonight, the rapper has shared a lengthy message containing a couple freestyle’s and announcing his retirement from the music and film industry. “Anyone can do the research about the world passport; it’s not a fictitious document”.
“I am retiring from the music recording industry as it is now assembled today, and also from Hollywood, effective immediately”.
“All I seek is to leave [in] this state”. He claims that he’ll release one final album, and then stop rapping and acting for good. For iOS go here.
