Pakistan secured a huge 178-run win over England in the second Test of the three-match series in Dubai.
After scoring 102 runs in the first innings of the second Test, Pakistan skipper, Misbah-ul-Haq backed it up with 87 runs in the second innings – thereby moving up to the 11th spot.
Pakistan’s Younus Khan (854 points) sits in fifth place with England captain Alastair Cook in eighth on 783.
As many as six other bowlers have also achieved career-best rankings.
This has, in turn, enabled him to leapfrog the pace trio of England’s James Anderson and Stuart Broad, and New Zealand’s Trent Boult.
With 827 points to his name, Shah is now 78 points adrift from South Africa’s Dale Steyn, who is the leader of the pack.
Sri Lanka’s second Test win over West Indies also caused movement in the rankings, with Sri Lanka bowler Dhammika Prasad moving four places to a career-high 15th position following match figures of 5-72.
It will be Root too who has the next opportunity to further enhance his standing when England face Pakistan again in Sharjah in the final Test on Sunday.
With the win, Pakistan are now in lead with 1-0 against England after first match between the two sides ended with the draw.
South Africa with 125 rating was placed at the top position in the Test ranking list; while Australia topped the ODI list with 127 ratings.
