Yaya Toure omitted from Manchester City Champions League squad
Yaya Toure will reportedly be left out of Manchester City’s Champions League squad for the group stage this season.
The 33-year-old has played in a limited role so far under Pep Guardiola and that looks set to continue until he is moved on by the Manchester club.
However, the announcement of Man City’sChampions League squad would appear to have put a final nail of Touré’s career at the club.
The UEFA rules permit only 17 players who are not “locally-trained” or “association-trained”, with Guardiola having 18 in his team.
The Ivorian worked under Guardiola at Barcelona earlier in his career, but was not a guaranteed starter.
Now, the player won’t see any action in the Group Stages of Europe’s premier competition, although he may be recalled for the knockout rounds when three changes to the squads can be made.
He has only played once this season, in the second leg of the Champions League playoff tie against Steaua Bucharest, when they already had a 5-0 lead from the first encounter.
Captain Vincent Kompany, Ilkay Gundogan and Claudio Bravo are all expected to be named in the squad and that will leave Toure on the sidelines. Stevan Jovetic was omitted from the squad in February 2015 after City signed Bony from Swansea City in the January transfer window.
Valencia’s fellow nominees are Curtis Davies (Hull), Eden Hazard (Chelsea) and Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), and you can cast your vote for Antonio now.
