Yaya Toure says Juventus were lucky against Manchester City
Manchester City face an anxious wait on the fitness of captain Vincent Kompany after he limped out of the Champions League home defeat by Juventus.
“It’s disappointing, I don’t think we deserved to lose”, he told BT Sport.
“I don’t think we need to learn from other years”, said the Chilean, whose team lost 3-1 to Bayern Munich in their first group game in 2013 and drew 1-1 with Roma last season.
“We played against a strong team, with not too many options, but I think we controlled the game and really I don’t remember Juventus creating important chances”.
“The last two seasons we started by losing the first (group) game and qualified for the next stage. Maybe they didn’t start well but they continue to have very good players – if we want to win we must play very well”.
Manchester City’s coach, Manuel Pellegrini decided to make a big suprise by taking Sergio Aguero among the substitutes, just a day after saying that their main striker won’t be ready to play against Juventus.
The 37-year-old’s double save from Sterling and Silva soon after City had taken a controversial lead – with Chiellini claiming he had been impeded by Vincent Kompany – was particularly impressive and a key moment.
“This is definitely a good thing because it allows us great flexibility”.
They would rue that miss because in the 70th minute, Juve struck back through Mario Mandzukic, who made the most of Pogba’s pinpoint delivery to stroke the ball into the net, with the aid of a brush off the post.
Teenage Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho, the match-winner at Palace, will not feature, having not been included in City’s Champions League squad, but Pellegrini is satisfied with his attacking alternatives. “I hope that for the weekend he can be 100 per cent”.
Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala have been ever-presents at the heart of the City defence as they have begun their Premier League campaign with five consecutive clean sheets.
