Year after stunning Williams, Vinci returns to Open with win
So in honor of her ongoing mind-boggling ability to slay on the court – and the start of the 2016 U.S. Open on Monday – Gatorade partnered with Serena to release a brand-new interactive game on Snapchat, an app with which the tennis champ and social media star is no stranger.
Gatorade is investing in a new Snapchat video game ad tied to the United States open. Snapchat now has a game as well, the first-of-its-kind multi-level game that is playable directly on the platform. Williams is expected to break a record despite an early loss at the Olympics this summer.
And, for an 8-bit Gatorade-sponsored ad buried beneath ESPN’s Snapchat Discover stories (baseball player Carlos Gomez running into a wall and a stack of kids sliding down a hill on a piece of cardboard), Serena Match Point killed it on the fashion.
The game is available in Snapchat’s ESPN Discover channel, as mentioned, but it’s also available on the web courtesy of Gatorade if you’re an old or otherwise unwilling to locate it in the Snapchativerse.
Level 23 will unlock on September 10 – the same day as the U.S. Open Women’s Finals, which could be Williams’ record-breaking 23rd major title win, if she happens to advance that far next month. Players must take on Williams’ opponents at the various Grand Slams during the game-winning match point. If you don’t win on any of your three serves, the game sends you back to your last checkpoint. Those looking to beat their score might want to try the game on their desktop via the game’s website, with the controls being the same besides clicking to serve and hit the ball.
Within the game itself players compete as Williams and progress to the next level when the opposition fails to return a shot.
