Year-Old Gets Plastic Surgery After Being Bullied for Having “Elf Ears”
A six-year-old Utah boy underwent cosmetic surgery after bullies at his school teased him on the size of his ears.
Gage also spoke with Inside Edition, saying: “I just don’t want to be made fun of“.
His parents felt the same way, noting that other kids often stare and giggle when they see Gage’s ears. Honestly, with all of the care and support the American public school system affords, I get it. Teachers turn a blind eye to tortured kids while they’re busy wondering why that career in sports journalism never panned out. 6-year-old Gage Berger was being called “elf ears” at school, and his parents, Tim and Kallie, were anxious that the constant name-calling would have a lasting impact on their young son.
While doctors generally don’t recommend plastic surgery for children under 18, ear pinbacks are more common among kids.
Dr. Steven Mobley who performed the surgery said it’s not the first time he’s had a patient as young as Gage. “This isn’t like taking a mole off”, he says. Religious families rigorously tell their children that God created them a certain way for a reason, and expect them to be thankful, regardless of their insecurities. While she understands that bullying can have long-term psychological effects, there should be other steps taken before having a child go under the knife. “The behavior that needs to change is that of the bullies”, he says.
Most parents teach their children that they’re handsome no matter what, and no one should make them feel differently. “Plastic surgery should always be for yourself”.
