YMCA accepting gifts for Angel Tree Giving
Without the gifts of new toys and clothing provided by Angel Tree donors, many children in Coastal Alabama would have nothing under their Christmas tree on Christmas morning, according to Maj.
Roxanne Matous from the Salina Salvation Army says “the community was so helpful by selecting 661 Angels off the tree within two weeks, now is the time to get the gifts back”. Teri Nauta with the Salvation Army. “Please join us in spreading the spirit of Christmas to those who need it most”, said Pastor Hollins. The Salvation Army wants to remind each of those generous gift-givers that the presents must be returned to the place where they picked up their Angels by Saturday, Dec. 12.
Contributions to help meet the need for the larger number of families registered for this year’s Christmas Box food distribution have so far included a $4,000 grant from Speedway Children’s Charities, a $15,000 gift from Roadrunner Markets and numerous individual donations.
“One year we had 1,500 tags returned with gifts, but there aren’t as many now because there are more angel trees throughout the community”, said Chandler.
“What we’re talking about here is a group of children who have very few material possessions”, she said.
For the 5th year Fellowship Church has partnered with Ariel Clinical Services, to host their annual Angel Tree program.
