Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan detained
Instead of a five-member committee with 3 non-political appointees, the new bill calls for a four-member committee comprising the Delhi Chief Minister, Delhi Leader of Opposition, Speaker of Assembly and a High Court judge. Prashant Bhushan said on Twitter.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said it was a “historic” Bill. “Kejriwal must resign from office”, senior Bhushan said.
The bill will be tabled in the Delhi Assembly tomorrow.
On November 18, Bhushan indicated that he hardline wing of the party is planning to restart agitations for the passing of Janlokpal bill in Delhi. The eradication of corruption requires the establishment of an effective and expeditious anti-corruption authority and the Jan Lokpal will help in establishing the National Capital Territory of Delhi as a corruption-free zone.
This was followed by new accusations that Kejriwal and company had changed the contents of the bill.
This could become another sticking point between the Delhi and the central governments whose relations have already hit rock-bottom.
Meanwhile, functionaries in the AAP government, when contacted, refused to comment on the charges made by Bhushan at a press conference at his Noida residence.
“Bhushan, Yadav and Pushkar along with 150 supporters were detained under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act and taken to the operations cell of the North Delhi district police”.
Bhushan, flanked by his father, former Union Law Minister Shanti Bhushan, said AAP government has deliberately included the provision for initiating proceedings against Union Ministers and officials to stoke confrontation. Slamming the Bill, Bhushan said, “We were shocked to find that the present Bill is against every principle on the basis of which the anti-corruption movement fought for the institution of Janlokpal”. Double standard? Do you need more proof of collaboration between them-BJP.
2014 Delhi Lokpal Bill totally different from #AapKaJokepal.
Calling themselves dedicated to the cause of people, the AAP, which rose to prominence through a series of protests and strikes against the Indian Congress, then in power at the centre, became a force to reckon with, but have lost pace since, owing to the sacking of multiple leaders and dissent by several others.
Calling the Bill a “betrayal”, Mr. Yadav said, “The Bill has a provision of investigating Central government employees and the Centre will not allow this”.
