You Can’t Change Diego Costa – Harry Redknapp
Diego Costa’s response to being benched in Chelsea’s Premier League game against Tottenham on Sunday has been branded as “petulant” and “disrespectful” to the club’s fans by Jamie Redknapp.
In the 92nd minute of the clash, an infuriated Costa threw his training bib in the air, presumably aiming towards Mourinho.
“For me his behaviour is normal”.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho denied any rift with Diego Costa despite the striker’s unhappy reaction to being dropped to the bench for the scoreless draw at Tottenham Hotspur.
Movement, movement, movement. We’ve ben lacking movement by and large this season, but some of what was on display Sunday at White Hart Lane should be carried forward to subsequent goals and glory. “The way that we played and the maturity that we showed today made me very proud for them”.
Costa didn’t come out for the pre-match warm-up, though boss Jose Mourinho chose not to make an issue of that.
“I expect Diego to come back strongly”. What happens next is up to him, but if he is not playing well, then he will stay on the bench.
But the Blues were facing a Tottenham side that extended its unbeaten run in the league to 14 matches – the best since the 1984-85 season – and sits 10 points ahead of Chelsea in fifth place. ‘I like good interviews.
Chelsea felt like “a small team” to Tottenham in their encounter at White Hart Lane, according to the host’s manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Asmir Begovic has been covering but has been part of a Chelsea side involved in their worst start to a Premier League season in the Roman Abramovich era. “Last season we lost here 5-3 and we tried to get revenge but I think a draw is a good result”. “Lloris was the goalkeeper with more work and the save of the game (from Hazard), and we created the better chances”.
“I was looking for a victor with the team that was on the pitch. I am convinced at the end of December we will be in a different position than we are now and shorten the distance to the top teams, and our feeling will be different”.
“We deserved more than we got, so I was disappointed, but it’s true that I’m proud of the players”. It’s very hard, though, not easy.
He further said that dropping Costa would have helped him to know how team wants him to perform.
“This weekend we will be enemies because we both want to win the game”.
