You might be able to watch Major League Baseball games on Facebook this year

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday he didn’t want to share specifics of his priorities for alterations.

Though this may seem like an insignificant change, the immediate reaction among baseball romantics fell somewhere in the realm of rage, dismay and total bewilderment. I fell in love with our game early on in my career.

“I’m firmly convinced that our fans want us to respond to and manage the change that’s going on in the game”.

It’s not yet clear if the new rule on walks will take effect in time for the first spring training games later this week.

This is less egregious than the other proposed rule change, to begin each extra inning with a runner on second, but they’re both part of a trend of Major League Baseball trying to automate facets of the game that traditionally have depended, and should depend, on skill. “You appreciate and respect that history”. One radical and wholly controversial change – placing a runner on second base to start extra innings – will be attempted in the low minor leagues beginning this season.

A signal from the pitching team’s dugout will replace the longtime practice of throwing four pitches to a standing catcher for an intentional base on balls, according to ESPN and The Associated Press.

But as The Wall Street Journal reported, such walks aren’t that common and the change will only shorten the game by an average of 14 seconds.
