You might not want to dunk your Galaxy S7 under water
The list is now topped by the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, which passed the same waterproof testing that the Galaxy S7 Active failed.
Consumer Reports tested the Galaxy S7 Active from AT&T, the only carrier to sell the unit in the US.
When the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active there were expectations that it would be even more durable than the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge due to its “Active” moniker. While Consumer Reports generally doesn’t evaluate phones for this feature, we do perform an immersion test when a manufacturer claims that its product is water-resistant. This is unusual because both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge feature the same IP68 rating and both passed the test. But the real reason to purchase a Galaxy S7 Active is for its “go anywhere” attitude, rubberized body that withstands drops and shocks, and its IP68 dust and water resistance. The phones never returned to functionality. Consumer Reports claimed that the “screen cycled on and off every few seconds, and moisture could be seen in the front and back camera lenses”. She said Samsung’s claims are usually “fairly good”. However, when it was tested by Consumer Reports, the screen of Active flashed green and did not respond to touch.
Samsung tells the publication that it has had “very few complaints” about such an issue with the Galaxy S7 Active. Those two phones now top our smartphone Ratings, with Excellent scores for their displays, battery life, cameras, and other attributes.
Consumer Reports submitted a second smartphone to the test, in the possibility that the first was just a defective sample. Unfortunately for Samsung, the leaks appear to have continued. The J Max also comes with a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, LTE connectivity, dual SIM support, an 8 MP rear camera, 1.5 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of expandable storage space.
Rerecich said it’s likely that the problems affect only some of the units manufactured, but ‘we bought two and they both failed’.
In the USA, the Active phone costs $795, which is the same price as the Edge, and $100 more than the regular S7.
