#YouLookDisgusting message about acne and beauty goes viral
London-based filmmaker Em Ford, who writes the popular beauty and lifestyle blog “My Pale Skin”, has created a video that has sent waves of shock through the social media landscape – and with very good reason.
Ford says that she started posting images of herself without make-up on social media about three months ago.
As she begins to apply makeup the inevitable happens, “You look beautiful”, “You’re so perfect”, a word that resonates throughout the video.
“I can’t even look at her”, “WTF is wrong with her face?”, “Her face is so ugly”, “You look disgusting” – these are the comments she saw while posing on photos without any cosmetics.
As shown in her viral YouTube video, Ford goes from being called disgusting to attractive – to stunning and ideal.
“This is false advertising”, rages one. But the compliments were quickly followed up with remarks like “This is why I have trust issues”, and, “Imagine waking up next to her in the morning”. It’s those ones – like “My confidence is growing” and “I’m finally accepting myself” that are the real beauty of makeup and whether or not you choose to wear it. It’s not because you’re trying to trick men into going home with you. “One challenge many face today, is that as a society, we’re so used to seeing false images of perfection, and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards”. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. She ends on a picture of her with no makeup next to the message ‘You are handsome.’.
