Young boy who went missing from Boston beach found dead
The eight-year-old went missing near Carson Beach Tuesday, around 2 p.m. His thoughts and prayers were with the family, he added.
Walsh said numerous children at the drop-in centers are those whose families do not have money to pay for summer camp or other programs.
Kyzr was last seen out of the water and on the sand. He was supposed to make his way to the bath house to change, but never showed up. Massachusetts State Police and the Coast Guard are also participating in the search. Walsh said 25 counselors were on duty on July 25, watching 56 children.
As the investigation into what happened during the final hours of the boy’s life continued Wednesday, Walsh said he planned to meet with the boy’s family.
“You can’t blame 28 people working at the center for what happened”, Walsh said when asked why he had not suspended the counselors, who are between the ages of 15 to 18.
Walsh said the center would be closed today but would reopen as early as tomorrow, saying it would be needed as a way for residents to cope with the hot weather. “We have not had any type of incidents like this ever before”.
There is no surveillance video near the M Street Bathhouse.
“This is the worst part of our job”.
“Initial information led us to believe he went outside the building, that’s why out search concentrated toward his house, that was the information we had”, said Boston Police Commissioner Williams Evans.
“From when we got that call, we worked the best we could to try to find that child”, Evans said. Walsh said his staff will be reviwing protocols at community centers throughout the city, as well as assessing all the summer camps and drop-in centers run by the city. “They’re going through something that I don’t think anyone here wants to go through”, Evans said. “Dealing with a tragic death like this”.
