Zack Snyder Says He Did Not Change Superman; Followed “The True Canon”
We’ll see you on the red carpet. You can listen to Snyder in full below and make your own decisions about whether or not having Superman kill Zod was a smart choice. But really the movie is about Batman and Superman. “If you’re a fan of them in the comic books, you’ll get a great opportunity to see what they look like, and how they move, [that] they’re real”.
“You know, long after I’m done making a Batman/Superman movie there’ll be someone else who makes it. You know, who makes another one”.
Sources also told the publication that McNairy’s character, who is in a wheelchair is going to be a witness against the Man of Steel when the latter was called to the United States Senate.
Don’t expect that to happen for all of the Justice League in Batman v Superman, however. “People are always like ‘you changed Superman.’ If you’re a comic book fan, you know that I didn’t change Superman”, he said.
During Snyder’s appearance on the Hall of Justice podcast, Snyder admitted that, while Man of Steel was meant to update Superman and while this Kal-El was different from the Christopher Reeves’ incarnation, he believes he wasn’t doing a disservice to the comic book Man of Steel. It’s tough to nail down a “true” Superman, and we even can argue over his basic personality traits, but Snyder was more than cognizant of how he wanted his take to stand out. So read the comics if you want to get a little more of the feel of the world of Batman v Superman, but expect to see any really important stuff repeated in the film when it opens in theaters March 25th. Minimizing the roles of other Justice League members is the right way to go as anything more substantial would distract from the central plot of this film. Needless to say, as much as that recent trailer for Batman v Superman appeared to reveal, it seems as if there are still plenty of surprises on the way.
