Zelda co-creator wants a ‘boyish’ actress for Link
Citing Gamespot.com, Miyamoto and designer/director, Takashi Tezuka, recently sat down with MTV.com to reveal that their ideal actor for the purported film is someone “completely new” and added that a Japanese performer “may not be the best fit” for the role.
“I only know Japanese actors”, Miyamoto says with a smile.
The Legend of Zelda’s creator Miyamoto explained Nintendo‘s intention to possibly making a movie based on the game and said that Nintendo wanted to expand their reach outside the gaming world; they do not want to be limited to the gaming industry.
Tezuka chimed in to admit that he doesn’t have any person in mind, as of the moment. “This is just personally, it would very fun and awesome if Link was played by a female actress, a boyish female actress”. (No matter how many nonsense YouTube videos people make to argue the point at me.) nearly every game in the franchise is about a different Link throughout the convoluted timeline.
Elsewhere in the interview, Miyamoto addressed the possibility of movies based on Nintendo properties but refused to give anything away.
There were some rumors about Nintendo working with Netflix on a Zelda TV series, but those rumors were quieted by the late Satoru Iwata. With mumblings of a Zelda movie going around, something tells us we’ll hear more on this soon.
