Zenit striker nears West Brom switch
West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis confirms his interest in signing Zenit St Petersburg and Venezuela global striker Salomon Rondon.
Boss Tony Pulis will now turn his attentions to other targets and the Welshman said: “There has been a couple of Belgians we’ve looked at and a French lad I’m keen on as well”.
James McClean, James Chester, Rickie Lambert, Serge Gnabry and Rondon have all signed for Pulis, while Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall remains a key target. “It’s then which ones suit us and which ones we can do”.
“Behind the scenes we are working very, very hard to get the players in that we want”.
When asked if Lescott would leave, Pulis replied: “Never say never to anything in football – I have told you that before – but as far as I am concerned, he has trained well today and we are looking forward to him being in the team and in the squad”.
However, as the 25-year-old striker will reportedly cost the Premier League club in the region of £15 million before the transfer window slams shut, West Brom will simply have to break their record transfer fee if they eventually want to see the South American hit-man turning out in the club’s colours next season.
Jose Salomon Rondon shone for Venezuela at the 2015 Copa America in Chile.
The Baggies only have Boaz Myhill as a senior keeper with Ben Foster still recovering from a serious knee injury and unavailable until October.
“There are four or five players we’ve tested the waters”.
