Zidane will not ‘go crazy’ despite Real Madrid slump
Madrid travel to the Basque country still reeling following Wednesday’s 1-0 home defeat to Betis which means they have so far not won a league game in front of their fans this season, with Wednesday’s defeat following draws against Valencia and Levante.
Real’s all-time Spanish record of scoring in 73 successive games came to an end.
The absence of Cristiano Ronaldo through suspension for the club’s first four league games made matters hard but even the Portugal worldwide couldn’t prevent Zinedine Zidane’s from slipping to defeat against Real Betis.
He played tribute to his keeper saying: “He cost us a goal two weeks ago against Villarreal so I’m really pleased for him”.
“Remember we scored three at San Sebastian [against Real Sociedad] just three days before Betis”.
Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly not happy with one of his teammates, to the extent he’s even reached out to manager Zinedine Zidane about dropping him from the team.
It leaves the European champions seven points adrift of leaders Barcelona.
Earlier, Atletico Madrid celebrated being awarded the honor of hosting the Champions League final in 2019 with an impressive 2-1 win at Athletic Bilbao to move up to third.
Real Madrid must win the majority of their games between now and then and hope one of the tricky games catches Barcelona off-guard.
Still, under pressure Betis scarcely deserved victory and their goalkeeper, Madrileno and former Madrid goalkeeper Antonio Adan, had the game of his life.
But a seven-point gap, in a top-heavy league such as La Liga, could ultimately prove decisive. It ended with a 1-0 loss at home, and ended despite 27 Real Madrid shots, and nearly two dozen inside the penalty area. Everyone thought that there was no way Madrid could win these two games due to the absence of Ronaldo.
“Obviously the press is here to talk about the results and I respect that but we aren’t going to change”. “We have just played a great game [3-1 at Real Sociedad]”.
“It will be a little bit odd but I’m happy for him, he’s working hard, he’s at a side that is not doing great at the moment but they’ve got a good squad and they are working well”.
