Zika crisis to ‘get worse before it gets better’: WHO chief
Florida Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John Armstrong said on Wednesday that several women who have traveled to countries with local transmission of Zika have received antibody testing.
The health department said it tested several pregnant women who had traveled to countries where the virus is spreading.
The CDC is not being specific about which states the 14 women resided in.
The CDC extended the period to prevent the spread of the Zika because there have been some cases of sexual transmission, taking in account World Health Organization guidelines.
“This is the time of year when many MI residents are traveling to warmer climates”. The state says the Ingham County woman was not pregnant.
People with Zika Virus disease usually have symptoms that can include mild fever, skin rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise, or headache. According to the state, only about one out of five people infected with Zika are symptomatic.
Citing privacy, the health department did not disclose the counties where the pregnant women live.
“We need to let everyone know in Angelina County and surrounding counties that each person needs to take responsibility for their own property”, Shaw said.
Officials said the same scenario played out in most, if not all, of the suspected cases: A man who had traveled to a Zika-affected area returned the United States and had sex with a female partner, who soon began to display symptoms consistent with Zika. While rare, spread of the virus through blood transfusion and sexual contact also have been reported.
All of the newly reported cases of sexual transmission have been in the US.

The real concerns with Zika lie with potential birth effects when an expecting mother contracts the virus.
The virus’ greatest risk is to pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, due to possible links to microcephaly (a birth defect causing small heads and incomplete brain development in infants).
At least 29 countries in the Americas have experienced Zika outbreaks. Miami-Dade County leads the state with 11 reported cases.
There is no vaccine for Zika.
According to the CDC, there have been 82 cases of travel-associated cases of Zika in the US, but no locally-acquired cases. The mosquitoes that transmit Zika bite primarily during the day.
