Zimbabwe Tour Guide Mauled to Death by Lion, Police Say
A professional guide died on the spot after being mauled by a lion on Monday while leading six foreign clients in the Hwange National Park, authorities confirmed.
Parks agency spokeswoman Caroline Washaya-Moyo said no decision had been made on whether to shoot Nxaha.
Quinn Terence Swales, 40, was attacked on Monday after the group left their vehicle to inspect a pride of lions with cubs under a tree in the Hwange National Park, the country’s largest natural reserve.
“Nxaha jumped out at Quinn”.
Authorities say one of the lions became hostile and attacked him.
Police are investigating. It it was not clear whether Mr Swales from Harare, was armed.
It would seem as if the lions in the Hwange national park aren’t taking any chances after what happened to their cuz in July. He was tracking lions early this morning, when a male lion unexpectedly charged.
“All efforts to save Quinn were in vain”, a statement said.
It is interesting to note that in the middle of the animal rights outcry that followed news of the death of Cecil the Lion, Zimbabwean Goodwell Nzou wrote a column in The New York Times stating his inability to understand Americans’ sorrow.
A lion killed a safari guide in Zimbabwe, mauling him to death.
Camp Hwange had posted on their website expressing sorrow on the death of Swales.
The guide according to a statement released by the camp where he worked said Quinn ‘did everything he could to successfully protect his guests and ensure their safety’ during the attack.
Walter Palmer, the Minnesota dentist who fired the fatal shot at Cecil, remains out of the public eye after earning worldwide scorn for the killing.
Palmer’s guide on the expedition, Zimbabwean Theo Bronkhorst, appeared in court last month and was granted $1,000 bail pending his trial on September 28 on charges of organising an illegal hunt.
