Zinedine Zidane resigns as Real Madrid manager after third Champions League win
The Real Madrid players found out their manager was leaving just over 72 hours after they had claimed their third successive Champions League trophy.
The one that might stand out is Antonio Conte at 4/1.
Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane looks set to clarify his position at the Bernabeu after calling a press conference in the Spanish capital for Thursday afternoon. “I made this decision because I love this club, I love [the club president] and I am grateful towards him”. It was not an easy decision’.
Rafa Benitez’s appointment had been an unmitigated disaster with the dressing room simply not buying into his methods, and Perez was forced to take a risk by hiring Zidane.
“I love this club a lot, the president, who gave me everything – to play first at this great club”.
“But now we have to change”.
“At 1pm, Zinedine Zidane will appear before the media”, the club said in a statement, without giving details about the reason for the press conference. I want to thank them because it’s they who fight on the pitch. I think it is the right decision for everyone. “I’ve done what I could for this club”. He told me that he was convinced he wanted to go.
“I spoke to him (Real president Florentino Perez) to explain a little what I was thinking at the moment”. His behaviour has always been an example for all and he has represented Real Madrid very well. I have no doubt he will come back soon’. Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to replace him and Arsene Wenger is also in contention.
That’ll stop him being linked with being Zidane’s replacement. won’t it? Besides the three Champions League titles, Zidane had also won the La Liga title in 2017 nad the FIFA Club World Cup twice.
Zidane took charge of 149 games at Madrid, losing just 16 of them.
