Zlatan: “I will be God of Manchester”

“I admire Cantona and I heard what he said”, Ibrahimovic is quoted as saying in Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. Ibrahimovic has said he wants to be “God” at Manchester United.

‘But I won’t be King of Manchester.

“You can be the prince if you want to”, Cantona continues. The king is gone.

Ibrahimovic, eight years Cantona’s senior on arrival at Old Trafford, has 14 league titles from Holland, Italy, Spain and France.

“I heard what [Cantona] said and I congratulate him because I have always admired him”, Ibrahimovic is quoted as saying by Federation Internationale de Football Association. When I came to Paris I knew that he was an incomparable talent as a player, but he’d be so tough and merciless on himself at all times.

Manchester United fans will be hoping he can replicate the skill to score plenty of goals at Old Trafford next season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains absent from Manchester United’s preseason as he enjoys an extended holiday in California with David Bechkam for company.

United set out for the Far East for International Champions Cup matches against Borussia Dortmund (22 July) and Manchester City (25 July), before taking on Galatasaray in Gothenburg on 30 July. On the eve of Euro 2016, where he represented Sweden one last time, he said in reference to the domestic league, where he began his career in 1999, “I am too good for the Allsvenskan”.

Ibrahimovic signed a one-year deal on a free transfer earlier this month with the Red Devils and is expected to link up with his new teammates in the latter part of pre-season.

Although United’s 25-man squad for the trip included Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford, Chris Smalling, David de Gea and Paddy McNair, who all exited Euro 2016 later than Ibrahimovic, the Swede was granted extra time off by Mourinho and is now sunning himself in Los Angeles.
