ZNAPS Makes Magnetic Charging Connectors Possible on Mobile
If you’re the type of person who is constantly tripping over power cables, then help could be at hand. Well, ZNAPS did just that, and made it for not only iPhones, but any device that uses a microUSB port (BlackBerry devices included!). This innovative magnetic charging adapter will make your life just a bit more convenient. You simply plug in a connector into your phone socket, and insert the corresponding adapter on your microUSB or Lightning connector head. There’s also a cool little LED light that indicates your phone is charging. When both magnetic parts are snapped together, your phone will charge or start transferring data (if you’re connected to a computer). There’s also a version for devices that use Micro-USB.
Unlike USB cables, the ChargeDoubler uses the full charging current of 1.000 Massachusetts from a PC allowing it to ramp up charging speeds by 200 per cent. That means you don’t actually have a plug that you have to push inside an opening on the MacBook. Znaps is small enough that it will work with a wide variety of custom iPhone cases that leave the Lightning port exposed, and as the project’s creators point out, it can cut down on the hassle of fumbling to get a Lightning cable plugged into an iPhone or an iPad.
ZNAPS is now on Kickstarter.
It is now available to pledge for over on the Kickstarter website from $9 (£5.75) with shipping expected in November.
A magnetic power connector didn’t seem that revolutionary when first revealed, but over the years the Apple MacBook’s MagSafe connector has proven itself to be an invaluable feature.
So far, the Kickstarter has raised more than $457,000, with 24 days to go before the campaign ends. At the time of writing, the inventors behind Znaps have already raised far more than their initial goal of $95,000.
