Zoolander 2 trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch plays androgynous model
Upon landing in the fashion capital of the world, they attract the attention of Penélope Cruz’s secret Interpol agent, and against all odds, become the only hope of foiling the plan. Cue the hot dance music and catwalk moves that only Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson’s model protagonists would know how to bring. The new cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch as a sexually indeterminate model, Penelope Cruz as an action-heroine and Kristen Wiig as – well, it’s not quite clear what she is.
Also back for more, Derek’s arch-nemesis, fashion mogul Jacobim Mugatu.
Zoolander 2 was filmed for 12 weeks in Rome in and around Cinecittà Studios.
Could Justin Bieber fit the role of a lovely person who can pull off peak “Blue Steel” before meeting an untimely movie death in Zoolander 2 any more than he does? A decade ago, Ben Stiller starred as the dimwitted title character who was able to stop a ninja throwing star with his signature look, Blue Steel. Time proves otherwise when it comes to sequels of previously acclaimed comedies (see: Anchorman 2, Dumb and Dumber 2) but for now we have a pretty amusing trailer.
The film is set for release in February next year, and the two-and-a-half minute video – released earlier today – has turned our anticipation levels up to 11.
The movie flashes past similar selfies by Demi Lovato, Usher and Miley Cyrus, and anyone who blinks might miss a quick appearance by Joe Jonas.
You could argue that the joke is about how dumb Derek is, as most of the jokes in Zoolander are.
