13 weapons recovered from USA gunman

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – The White House says President Barack Obama has been briefed by his homeland security adviser on a deadly mass shooting at a community college in Roseburg, Oregon.

Authorities are trying to build a profile of the 26-year-old gunman who shot and killed 9 people and wounded as many at a western Oregon community college on Thursday in hopes of discovering what his motive might have been.

Authorities confirmed the shooter, identified as Chris Harper-Mercer, handed out something during the shooting.

The shooter left behind a “multipage, hated-filled” statement in the classroom, according to a Twitter message from an NBC reporter, citing multiple law enforcement sources who were not identified. They could not confirm whether the writings were in a box.

Officials said they had recovered 13 weapons belonging to him, including six at the school.

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin has released a timeline of the Umpqua Community College shooting.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff Office the victims are: Lucero Alcaraz of Roseburg, 19, Quinn Glen Cooper of Roseburg, 18, Kim Saltmarsh Dietz of Roseburg, 59, Lucas Eibel of Roseburg, 18, Jason Dale Johnson of Winston, 34, Lawrence Levine of Glide, 67, Sarena Dawn Moore of Myrtle Creek, 44, Treven Taylor Anspach of Sutherlin, 20, and Rebecka Ann Carnes of Myrtle Creek, 18.

Ages of Umpqua’s students vary widely.

It is the 45th school shooting in the United States this year.

Celinez Nunez, assistant special agent of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said all the weapons had been purchased legally.

The suspect was killed when police engaged him in a shootout, but it was unclear if he was fatally wounded by officers.

Witnesses said the gunman asked his victims their religion before shooting them execution-style.

In Centralia, Washington, police said a note threatening a shooting at a school assembly shut down school for the day.

He enlisted in the army in 2008, but was discharged after less than a month in basic training, for reasons unknown.

– He graduated from the Switzer Learning Center in Torrance, Calif., in 2009.

According to his mother, Tonja Johnson Engel, said that her son had struggled with drug addiction.

Harper-Mercer is not thought to have had a criminal history.

Two officials said that after the shooting, the gunman’s family told investigators that he suffered from mental health issues and had sought treatment.

Elsewhere on the account are images of masked gunmen and praise for the Irish Republican Army, the outlawed paramilitary group committed to overthrowing Northern Ireland and its links with Britain.

Wednesday night, the gunman may have posted on the 4Chan website which guarantees anonymity to its users.

“So tonight, as those of us who are lucky enough to hug our kids a little closer are thinking about the families who aren’t so fortunate, I’d ask the American people to think about how they can get our government to change these laws, and to save these lives and let these people grow up”, his exact words were.
