2 blasts rock Nigerian capital
John Chukwu, has condemned the twin suicide bomb blasts in Kuje, a suburb of Abuja late Friday.
“Following a coordinated rescue operation at scene of multiple explosions in both Nyaya and Kuje, which are satellite towns of Federal Capital Territory Abuja, so far 15 persons lost their lives and 41 injured”, hospitals”, NEMA said in a statement.
The first struck near a police station in Kuje, 25 miles (40km) from Abuja, the second hit a bus stop in Nyanya. The group is believed to have killed at least 17,000 people since beginning attacks in 2009. Boko Haram extremists have largely been carrying out attacks in the country’s northeast but occasionally have attacked other towns.
He has however appealed to the residents of the Federal Capital Territory to be more vigilant and report any suspicious person or movement to the law enforcement agents.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
At least 39 others were wounded in the attack in the Sareji neighborhood of Maiduguri, military spokesperson Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman said.
Nigeria’s military on Thursday also accused Boko Haram of poisoning water sources in the northeastern Nigeria.
Witnesses and security sources said a few of the girls were as young as nine.
Buhari said Thursday his leadership has taken the battle to the insurgents, and severely weakened their logistical and infrastructural capabilities. Their target was to blow up Kuje Prison and set free their members there but of course it was not to be and hence the resort to bombings.
