23000 ballot papers were sans stamp, signatures: NA-122 verdict
Ali Ayaz Sadiq, NA speaker’s son while talking to the media, has announced that the tribunal’s decision will be challenged in the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC).
The tribunal was to announce decision at ten in the morning but delayed it, as workers of PTI and PML-N gathered nearby and shouting slogans.
Meanwhile, Ayaz Sadiq has announced to challenge the verdict about NA-122 by the tribunal in the apex court.
A petition had been filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan challenging Ayaz Sadiq’s victory in the 2013 elections.
In a massive upset for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN), an Election Tribunal Saturday disqualified Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq as member of the lower house of the parliament with immediate effect, Samaa reported.
PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, termed the decision as historic, adding that it would go a long way in ensuring a transparent election system in Pakistan. When proceedings for the case began in July 2013, Ayaz Sadiq obtained a stay order.
NA-122 was among the four controversial constituencies – the other three being NA-110 (Sialkot), NA-125 (Lahore) and NA-154 (Lodhran) – where PTI had demanded for voters’ thumbprint verification in the hopes of finding a solution that might be acceptable to all concerned. The NA speaker also recorded his statement before the tribunal on Feb 7, 2015.
PTI chief visited the tribunal twice, once for recording its statement against tribunal and 2nd time to ask tribunal to hear this particular case separately and do not amalgamate it results with PP-147.
The NADRA submitted its forensic report to the election tribunal on May 9 this year, according to which 93,582 votes in NA-122 could not be verified.
