Pope’s speech to Congress to be broadcast on National Mall
The report continues that using the large screens typically reserved for presidential inaugurations will allow tens of thousands of people to view Pope Francis’ address.
Boehner called the pope’s visit “a historic moment for the country”.
“Given the unprecedented nature of his visit, Pope Francis’ address to a joint meeting of Congress will be broadcast live to members of the public on the West Front of the Capitol”.
Demand for tickets to the guests’ gallery within the House chamber is excessive, particularly since lawmakers are restricted to one visitor ticket per workplace.
In addition, Boehner said that the first Latin American pontiff has expressed an interest in making a brief appearance on the West Front of the Capitol, which looks out over the National Mall located in central Washington, D.C.
The outspoken pope is predicted to problem Democrats and Republicans on abortion, immigration and local weather change, the difficulty of his current encyclical.
Boehner formally invited Francis to speak before Congress a year ago and the Pope formally accepted the offer in February, according to the statement. During the last few days of his visit, he’ll make stops in New York before traveling to Philadelphia for his trip’s main event, the Papal Mass for the World Meeting of Families.
