Xbox One’s November update contains more than just backwards compatibility
The November Xbox One update will begin rolling out to Preview Program Members in waves over the next few weeks.
However, Ybarra noted that the update will be implemented slowly as they are planning to roll out the update first to Preview members who will choose to “opt-in” on the invitation that they will send.
As for whether we’ll see a PlayStation5 and another Xbox to fight it, Bach is fairly convinced we will, saying: “I think there will be another generation”.
Your Xbox One is about to become a lot more like your home PC – provided that your PC is running Windows 10, of course. All the benefits of Xbox One will be present including screenshots, streaming and the game DVR. What’s even better is that multiplayer gaming allows Xbox 360 users to face off against Xbox One friends. Ditto for a new version of the Guide, which can be overlaid by double tapping the Xbox button to quickly access the system’s most important features. Access Friends, start a Party, get to Settings and more is quicker than ever.
“We won’t see people using Excel on the Xbox, but Microsoft is making it easier to port experiences from PC over to Xbox where they make sense”, Spencer said. Microsoft has also promised a more social experience with a new Community section, as well as a revamped OneGuide that focuses on apps as much as live TV-a theme that Apple also sounded in its announcement of its new Apple TV, incidentally.
All of these can be accessed in the faster and easier-to-use interface for the Home section of the Xbox One. Based on your feedback, this section is optimized to help you tap into what other gamers are doing on Xbox Live and directly contribute to the conversation happening within the Xbox Live community. You’ll now be able to see which posts are trending and follow your friends and games in the Activity Feed. Featured movies, shows and videos from your various apps will likewise be highlighted. A Trending page shows you the most popular posts by Xbox Live users.
For those on the Preview Program, listen up, because for some, you’re going to have to put some work in. Invites for the New Xbox One Experience will be distributed via Xbox Live messages.
Microsoft changed the Sky Drive to One Drive, the new XBOX came as the XBOX One – these were the first two indicators of their “power of one” thought.
We look forward to public availability of the backwards compatibility on Xbox One and are not surprised that this generation’s underdog has stepped up its game. But Microsoft is also giving users the option of staying out of the new dashboard-testing phase – while still receiving “regular” preview updates.
It’s been no secret that the Xbox One dashboard has had its fair share of criticism since its launch, but that could be about to change as November will see a complete re-design.
