Third of Scots less likely to vote SNP over indyref plan
In last year’s Sept. 18 referendum for independence, 55 % of Scottish voters rejected becoming an independent state.
“Our manifesto will set out what we consider around the circumstances in which, and the possible timescale in which a second referendum might be appropriate”, the SNP leader told the Sunday Herald.
Sturgeon said her pro-independence Scottish National Party (SNP) would set out a time table for a referendum in its manifesto ahead of regional elections next year.
NICOLA Sturgeon has indicated another referendum will not be staged until she believes independence can be achieved, while confirming that the SNP manifesto will contain details of its timing.
“We will be taking absolutely nothing for granted however, and will be working hard every day from now to next year’s election to retain the support of the people of Scotland – just as we have done everyday since 2007″.
A recent poll for the STV news channel found that 53 per cent of Scots would vote for independence in the event of another vote.
The SNP has, meanwhile, gained thousands of new members, winning 56 of Scotland’s 59 seats in a general election in May 2016.
One is due in May 2016 but so far Sturgeon has refused to say directly whether she would include a referendum pledge in her manifesto.
‘Whether I end up being proved right or wrong will be down to what the majority of people in Scotland decide’.
“It doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that support for independence has risen in the past year”, Sturgeon said.
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said: “Nicola Sturgeon has now made it clear that she wants to take Scotland back to another referendum, with all the uncertainty and division that entails”.
“And we will see through our commitments to give them the extra powers in the Smith Agreement“.
For example, her predecessor as SNP leader and first minister, Alex Salmond, has said that renewing the Trident fleet of nuclear armed submarines could be a reason.
Development Coordinator for the Equality Network Scott Cuthbertson, said: “We are very excited to be hosting the Equality Network’s inaugural Scottish LGBTI Awards”.
