Donald Trump says autism is linked to vaccines
The alternative, spacing the same vaccines out over longer periods of time, is not a good option.
The belief that vaccines cause autism – held by a small but vocal group of people making up the so-called anti-vax movement – was heavily fueled by a 1998 study that was later retracted after it was found to be based on fraudulent data.
And the potential fallout from that exchange has infectious-disease experts anxious .
Carson started well enough, pointing out that “there have been numerous studies, and they have not demonstrated that there is any correlation between vaccinations and autism”. And a lot of pediatricians now recognize that. “The candidates have been given a platform, and with that platform comes a certain responsibility to know the facts”. “It’s safe and effective”. Parents should have the latitude to space out vaccinations if they choose, he said. “It’s not surprising there would be some pushback”.
But while the other candidates, including Mike Huckabee hedged and wondered aloud about the dangers of vaccines, Dr. Ben Carson was the only candidate with absolutely no uncertainty about the matter.
Wiznitzer also said researchers have multiple theories to explain the increase of diagnosed autism cases in recent years without blaming vaccines. However, the study was later found to be fraudulent.
The Republican frontrunner then said an employee of his had a child who became autistic shortly after getting vaccinated around age 2. “I’m for vaccines, but I’m also for freedom”. “And I’m going to take my advice from them, and not from a real estate magnate”.
The New York State Department of Health says the same: “Children fight many more antigens on a daily basis than they fight when given any combination of vaccines on the vaccination schedule”. [5 risky Vaccine Myths].
If ending the Autism epidemic is your top priority, how in the world can you vote Democrat? Even in well-kept homes, these exposures continue as they crawl through rooms, handle objects, and stick their hands in their mouths.
While delaying vaccines puts children at risk of contracting disease, as the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Remley noted, its unclear how great that delay would be for specific shots. “Pediatricians partner with parents to provide what is best for their child, and what is best is for children to be fully vaccinated”. “It has gotten totally out of control”, Trump said. “We urge that all children be fully vaccinated”.
“Vaccines work, plain and simple”, Remley said.
Kids who don’t receive timely vaccinations also endanger “herd immunity”-the concept that everyone in a community enjoys general immunity against a disease if most people are immune to it, Baker added”.
In reality, we (yes, even babies) are exposed constantly to things that activate the immune system: individual proteins or pieces of proteins that make up bacteria, viruses, fungi, and everything we are exposed to. “We have seen the effects of misinformation on our children’s health”, she said. I’m concerned about how they’re bunched up… “We’ll have more of everything”. Vaccines are intended to keep children safe from things like Hepatitis B (which can cause liver cancer), polio (which can lead to paralysis), and influenza (which kills hundreds of children every year). “I know that’s a different opinion than some people hold, but it died off really quickly”. And weakened herd immunity is the reason we have measles outbreaks at Disneyland.
