Michigan State Spartans vs Oregon Ducks, 31-28 : Full highlights, final score
But on fourth down, linebacker Jon Reschke and defensive end Lawrence Thomas stopped running back Royce Freeman for no gain.
The Spartans played an incredibly entertaining game against the Ducks for their home opener on national television on Saturday night, defeating Oregon 31-28 in a back-and-forth test that saw both teams pulling out all the stops. Next week’s tune-up against Georgia State, one of the worst teams in the FBS, will help.
They’ll face the Buckeyes on November 21 in Columbus.
Michigan State played well, defensively, but Adams also threw two interceptions – the second of which he simply floated long toward a receiver. He missed the end of that game after being staggered by a late hit. Past year it kind of shocked us a bit, it was our first time playing them. “We can get them to the line of scrimmage as coaches, but they’ve got to see things”. “Right now, that’s what we are offensively”.
Connor Cook led the Spartans with 192 yards passing and 2 TD’s.
Player: Shelton GibsonPosition: Wide receiver Year: Sophomore College: West Virginia High School: Cleveland Heights Last game: Gibson caught six passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns in WVU’s victory over Liberty.
In the last meeting, the Ducks scored the last 28 points behind Heisman Trophy victor Marcus Mariota.
“I think it was important for us, especially after last week”, Bullough said. That’s what we practice for year-round.
“We’re preparing harder this week because we didn’t do a great job last week”. Michigan State’s defense, while good, is not the impenetrable wall it was during the Rose Bowl run in 2013. The Michigan State Defense sacked him four times. Troymaine Pope’s 5-yard touchdown run with 5:38 left had given the Gamecocks a 20-13 lead. “Obviously, you try to minimize the clunkers but the turnovers were huge”.
Oregon State had the 100,000-plus Michigan fans quieted throughout much of the first half with an early touchdown drive and some tough defense, but the second half was a little louder. Addison added an 81-yard punt return for a touchdown that tied the game early in the third quarter. The QB then found the endzone a few plays later on a two-yard run to make it 24-21. Adams fired a 25-yard, fourth-down pass to senior Byron Marshall to get Oregon inside the 10.
The Spartans needed just three plays to re-establish a double-digit lead.
Once again, Oregon’s offense would get back in this game as Adams marched the offense down the field for 80 yards.
“I felt the DB fall”, Marshall said. “You know teams are going to fight still”, Addison said. After the game, he repeatedly said the loss was “on me”, which Helfrich said would resonate with his teammates. The 6-foot-6, 315-pound Kieler was making his 10th career start…. Oregon was able to pick up the win last week’s performance, beating Eastern Washington 61-42 in its matchup. No, probably not. But at the least, Mark Dantonio’s team will present the biggest challenge to the Buckeyes when the two meet on November 21.
The Spartans were favored by three over the Ducks coming into this game.
With Oregon facing a third-and-6 from the MSU 33, Harlon Barnett and Tressel dialed up a blitz as tackle Lawrence Thomas and linebacker Chris Frey dragged Adams down for an 11-yard loss.
