Scott Walker Attacks Donald Trump, Likens Him to Obama
“Democrats and union bosses are panicking because I want to end the special treatment and taxpayer-funded giveaways they’ve benefited from for years, and they know I’ll deliver results for hardworking families no matter who stands in the way”, Walker said in a statement the day after releasing his plan.
The governor is a Harley enthusiast, and I suppose he wore the boots to let people know that under the suit and tie beats the heart of a road warrior. But the issue may no longer draw the fervent intensity from Republicans needed to make that campaign successful. Trump hosted NBC’s reality show “The Apprentice”. All we should be talking about tonight is how do we create jobs, helping people get the skills and qualifications they need to succeed. Which is ironic, because if there’s one professional poll in the field who’s proved that he can achieve things through sheer force of political will that other pols can’t, it’s Scott Walker.
During the lengthy three-hour debate, Walker received only two direct questions, and he spoke less than any other candidate. In Wisconsin, even workers at iconic companies faced hardship, as General Motors closed its Janesville plant and union members at Harley-Davidson made concessions to keep the company production in the state. If a corporation wants public money, then Walker’s your go-to guy in Wisconsin. They are very big fish in a modest-size pond, which they easily mistake for a huge one.
“I’m not going to turn my back on Walker”, he said.
But the share of Americans listing economic worries as the country’s top concern has dropped substantially in polling and national security concerns such as terror threats have returned to a prominent place in political debates. “Amid some of the proceedings, the mogul poured in millions of dollars from his personal fortune to keep the restructurings alive”. The GOP presidential hopeful would abolish the National Labor Relations Board, which investigates allegations of unfair labor practices, and eliminate federal employee unions.
Walker’s proudest moment as governor was his stripping the state’s public sector workers of their collective bargaining rights.
“The way the system is now set up, to stay alive, you have to really convince your relatively few big donors to stay in the game”, says Larry Noble of the Campaign Legal Center.
His campaign could be on a real flatline and in jeopardy, he said. Marco Rubio (Fla.), former Hewlett-Packard chief executive Carly Fiorina and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. He lagged behind most other candidates on Facebook as well. “It’s hard to see how he gets a bump from last night’s performance”, Franklin said.
“Well, I think we’re putting all our eggs in the basket of Iowa“.
For its part, his campaign still seems optimistic, dismissing the poll plunge as temporary.
“We just announced this week 99 county chairs and we’re going to get right down to 1600 precinct chairs”, Walker said, “because we understand that grassroots organization ultimately makes the difference in the Iowa Caucuses”.
You can see the appeal of this among certain voters who begrudge both the federal government and its disproportionately black workforce.
Rand Paul condemned Trump’s “sophomoric” attacks on personal appearances, saying we should “all be anxious to have someone like that in charge of the nuclear arsenal”.
