Samsung eyes its own Apple-like smartphone leasing program
New phones and services are not the only tools the two use in the endless battle for consumers – the companies are also at each other’s throats in court, battling over various patents. Samsung may be launching this leasing program in the next several months, although that timeline may accelerate, the executive said.
Its launch would follow Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program that will kick off this Friday in the United States, offered with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
At its September event this year, Apple announced a new “iPhone Upgrade Program“.
More smartphone makers are offering leasing programs due to many wireless carriers phasing out two-year contracts.
Verizon went as far as completely eliminating contracts, but they require users to pay phones off over a 2-year period before being able to upgrade.
Many are quite happy with the leasing plan, as smartphones come typically locked to the mobile carrier who have issued them. Samsung is also reportedly planning to introduce a dual camera setup in the Galaxy S7 that will allow users to capture images and videos of DSLR class quality. The former’s new plan lets customers rent a new iPhone for $15 per month, and the option to upgrade anytime. “If you’re in the second year of a contract, you’re effectively paying for an older handset”.
With this the new Galaxy Core Prime VE also features the latest version of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface.
The Korean tech giant has just slashed £150 off its new S6 edge+ phone, dropping the price to £599 for the 32GB model.
While Samsung has not revealed any features of the upcoming Galaxy S7, previous rumors suggest that the smartphone will boast a bigger 5.7-inch quad HD display in comparison to its predecessor but will pack in the same 2,560 x 1,440 pixels resolution.
