Samsung slashes price of Galaxy S6 edge in war on Apple’s iPhone
Forbes recently reported that Samsung may be putting another one of Apple’s ideas to use and launch a leasing program for their line of Galaxy phones.
Telsyte managing director Foad Fadaghi said Australia’s voracious technology consumers would likely embrace phone rental schemes as while smartphones were usually offered by carriers on a two-year contract, they were usually upgraded every year.
While there are already Samsung Galaxy phones and leasing programs available on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon, Samsung’s own offering might be more attractive to some folks if it is indeed like Apple’s leasing program. The lack of subsidies threatens sales for high-end phones like the Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy series. The profit margins of Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge phones are much lower than the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, and Apple just made it easier to switch to iPhones by launching an Android app of its own! It is not necessarily in Samsung’s interest to make the Galaxy s7 similar to an iPhone. The former’s new plan lets customers rent a new iPhone for $15 per month, and the option to upgrade anytime. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has an 8-core processor and 4GB RAM.
An earlier UberGizmo report noted that two Galaxy S7 variants (S7 and S7 Edge) are expected with one being powered by an Exynos chipset and the other by Qualcomm by next year. Whether it will simply allow for an installment payment plan or also offer annual device upgrades is something still left to speculation.
As for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, though its specs are not at par with the Samsung device, it is still a relatively remarkable smartphone, which sits at the border of mid-range to high-end handsets.
The Galaxy smartphone was initially launched in June 2009.
