Apple Inc. To Introduce New 64-Bit iPod Touch, Colored Variants Next Week
New iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle models are reportedly en route, with Apple apparently set to unveil a refreshed lineup of portable music players on July 14. The iPhone 5c is also expected to be upgraded to the new processors this fall, to the iPhone 6c.
It would be interesting to see whether the upgraded iPods could boost sales of Apple’s music players. iPod sales have been declining for years as consumers replace them with smartphones. The current model has not been updated in years and has led to rumors that Apple could be phasing the entire line-up out – although recent events seem to suggest otherwise.
If so, that suggests I’m right about the Nano and the Shuffle, but the Touch is likely to hang in there for some time yet.
For a while it seemed that Apple had forgotten about one of its most popular device, the iPod touch. The iPod nano and shuffle updates, codenamed N31A and N12D, may not receive the processor upgrade. Notably, a few eagle-eyed readers noticed that the Calendar app on the iPod touch displays “Tuesday” and “14”, which lines up with Tuesday, July 14 and information shared by iGen.fr’s sources.
We’re expecting gold, grey, electric blue, fuchsia, pink and black models, some of which leaked earlier this month in the new version of iTunes. The iPod Touch was last refreshed in 2012 and the iPod Shuffle in 2010. The new iPods are expected to arrive in six color options: space gray, silver, red, deep blue, light gold, and bright pink.
