In 2014, Apple reportedly ordered a record of 70 million to 80 million iPhone units in the initial production of its current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus flagship devices.
Dawson said: “The slowdown in popularity of iPad payments reflects a general slowdown in tablet payments overall, and is likely due to the trend of bigger screen sizes on smartphones, as seen in recent iPhone and Android models”.
Apple’s smartphone sales have been good in the last couple of months.
Apple is said to have asked its suppliers to manufacture between 85 million to 90 million units of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus combined. Apple has already added this feature to the Apple Watch and MacBook laptop computer.
Can Apple really match or even exceed such a take-up with the iPhone 6S, which is expected to look very similar to the iPhone 6? In Merrill Lynch’s opinion, Apple could pursue a simultaneous release of the iPhone in China this year which could explain at least half the roughly 15 million-unit higher build rate this year. The iPhone 6S will receive a Force Touch display and this technology will help the screen to distinguish between light taps and hard presses to perform different actions.
